In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics trade, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled a sophisticated drug trafficking network that was operating through the dark web. During the operation, authorities seized party drugs worth nearly ₹5 crore and uncovered a distribution system that relied on anonymous online platforms and encrypted communication.
According to officials, the traffickers used hidden online marketplaces on the darknet to buy and sell illegal narcotics. The accused allegedly relied on digital payment methods and anonymous online identities to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies while running the drug supply network across multiple locations.
During the investigation, NCB officials intercepted several suspicious parcels that were being shipped through courier services. Authorities discovered a variety of synthetic narcotics commonly associated with party culture. The seized drugs included 2,338 LSD blots, 160 MDMA (ecstasy) pills, about 73 grams of charas, around 3.64 grams of amphetamine, and nearly 3.6 kg of liquid MDMA, officials said.
Officials added that most of the drugs were found in 13 domestic parcels intercepted by authorities, along with two parcels that originated from the Netherlands, indicating possible international links in the trafficking network. The seized substances are commonly abused at rave parties and nightlife events, and their estimated value in the international market is about ₹5 crore.
Investigators believe the network used a sophisticated supply chain involving the dark web, courier deliveries, and digital transactions to distribute narcotics while maintaining anonymity. The operation followed months of intelligence gathering and digital tracking by the NCB before authorities launched coordinated action against the syndicate.
The Narcotics Control Bureau, a central law enforcement agency under India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for combating drug trafficking and illegal narcotics trade across the country. Officials said such darknet-based networks pose a growing challenge because traffickers increasingly use encrypted communication, cryptocurrencies, and parcel delivery systems to move drugs across regions.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests may follow as the agency works to identify other members of the network and trace the international connections behind the operation.
The latest crackdown highlights the rising use of the dark web for drug trafficking and underscores the government’s efforts to curb the spread of synthetic drugs in India, especially among young consumers.
