Pakistan Targets Fuel Depot Near Kandahar Airport
Pakistan allegedly carried out an airstrike on a fuel depot belonging to the private airline Kam Air near Afghanistan’s Kandahar Airport, according to statements from the Afghan Taliban. The strike reportedly hit a storage facility that supplies fuel to civilian aircraft and some United Nations flights operating from the airport.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the attack and described it as part of a wider escalation in hostilities between the two neighboring countries.
Wider Airstrikes Reported Across Afghanistan
Along with Kandahar, Pakistani airstrikes were reported in several areas including Kabul and other provinces. Afghan authorities said the attacks caused casualties and damage to residential buildings, with at least four people reportedly killed and several others injured.
Rising Tensions Between Pakistan and Afghanistan
The incident marks one of the most serious escalations between Pakistan and the Taliban-led Afghan government in recent years. Pakistan claims its operations target militant groups operating from Afghan territory, while the Taliban denies these allegations and calls the strikes a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
Pakistan’s military has not issued an official response regarding the Kandahar strike. Meanwhile, Afghan officials warned that the aggression would not go unanswered, raising concerns of further conflict in the region.
