Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have arrested 35 people, including 19 Indian nationals, for allegedly sharing misleading and fabricated videos on social media during escalating tensions related to the ongoing US–Iran war. Officials said the posts circulated false or manipulated clips that could create panic and spread misinformation online.
Action Ordered by UAE Attorney-General
The arrests were ordered by Attorney-General Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, who directed that several suspects be placed on an expedited trial process. Authorities said the group included multiple nationalities and that the cases were being investigated under strict cybercrime laws.
Videos Allegedly Spread False Claims
Investigators said some of the shared clips were manipulated or created using artificial intelligence, while others promoted misleading narratives related to regional military developments. Officials warned that spreading such content can threaten public order and national security.
Strict Warning Against Sharing War-Related Content
UAE authorities had earlier warned residents not to film missile interceptions or circulate unverified footage during the ongoing regional crisis. Violators could face at least one year in prison and heavy fines under the country’s cybercrime laws.
