Patna: A day after the NDA’s landslide win in the Bihar Assembly elections, political activity intensified at the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday. Central minister Chirag Paswan met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, followed by JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha, who arrived with the list of newly elected MLAs. BJP MLA Nitin Nawin also met Kumar, stating there was “no confusion” over Nitish remaining the chief minister.
Senior JD(U) leaders Lalan Singh, Vijay Chaudhary, and Shyam Rajak also reached the CM House. Rajak affirmed that Nitish Kumar was the “only face of leadership” and said the NDA was completely united.
Meanwhile, JD(U) put up a controversial poster in Patna depicting RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav as Dhritarashtra, Rabri Devi as Gandhari, and Tejashwi Yadav as Duryodhan—drawing political attention. The poster referenced a “Haryana mall” remark made earlier by RJD’s Sanjay Yadav.
In Lakhisarai, newly elected Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha held a victory roadshow. Earlier, during the first phase of voting on November 6, his car had been attacked with mud and slippers, which he had termed an RJD conspiracy, though locals had blamed poor roads.
PM Modi Celebrates NDA’s Victory
At the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed supporters for 42 minutes, saying Bihar had “delivered a historic mandate” and that a “return of katta raj will never happen.” He also attacked the opposition, calling the Congress a “Muslim League–Maoist Congress” and suggesting another possible split within the party.
Modi claimed the Bihar mandate had energized BJP workers across the country, especially in West Bengal, asserting that the party—along with the people—would “uproot jungle raj” there. He also emphasized rapid development in Bihar over the next five years, promising increased investment, jobs, tourism growth, and redevelopment of religious sites.
NDA’s Dominant Numbers
The NDA secured a record 202 out of 243 seats, far beyond the 122 needed to form government, while the Mahagathbandhan managed only 35 seats. BJP and JD(U) had contested 101 seats each, with allies LJP (29 seats), HAM (6), and RLM (6) completing the alliance structure.
With the numbers firmly in NDA’s favour, Nitish Kumar is set to continue as Bihar’s Chief Minister.
