This winter is expected to be unusually harsh in Rajasthan, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting intense cold conditions throughout December, January, and February. The number of cold wave days is likely to be higher than normal, and minimum temperatures are expected to remain below average across several regions.
While winter rainfall (मावठ) is predicted to be slightly lower this season, daytime temperatures may hover close to normal levels. Northern, eastern, and south-eastern parts of Rajasthan are expected to witness severe cold, whereas western regions may experience comparatively normal winter conditions.
Temperatures Dip; Chill Intensifies
Over the last 24 hours, many cities recorded a noticeable drop in temperatures, increasing the overall chill. Pilani, Alwar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Churu, Jalore, and Sirohi reported a fall of 1–2°C in minimum temperatures.
Lunkaransar recorded the coldest night on Monday with a minimum temperature of 5.8°C.
Other minimum temperatures included:
- Fatehpur (Sikar): 6.5°C
- Churu: 7.4°C
With the onset of December, winter conditions have intensified across the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow cold wave alert for Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar from December 3 to 5.
Dense Fog in Sikar; AQI Worsens in Bhiwadi
Sikar witnessed dense fog on Tuesday morning, with visibility dropping below 100 metres in several rural areas. Fog conditions also affected the Shekhawati belt, Alwar district, and NCR-adjacent regions.
Cloud cover was reported in many districts, while Bhiwadi faced worsening pollution combined with fog. The city’s air quality level crossed 300, falling into the hazardous category, raising health concerns among residents.
