A high-speed Audi car caused massive chaos in Jaipur’s Mansarovar area on Friday night after it crashed into a crowded food-stall zone while allegedly racing another vehicle. The incident took place near Kharbas Circle under the Patrakar Colony police station area around 9:30 pm.
The car, reportedly moving at around 120 kmph, first hit a divider and then ploughed into roadside food stalls. At the time of the incident, more than 50 people were present at the spot. The Audi ran over more than 16 people before finally stopping after hitting a tree nearly 100 metres away.
One Killed, Four Critical
Police said that Ramesh Bairwa, a resident of Bhilwara who worked as a helper at a food stall, was declared dead at Jaipuriyah Hospital. Four injured victims are in critical condition and have been referred to SMS Hospital, while several others suffered injuries.
Four People in Car, One Is a Policeman
There were four people inside the Audi, including a Jaipur police constable. After the accident, one occupant was caught by the public, another was detained by police on Saturday morning, while the driver Dinesh and one more accused are still absconding. Police said all four were under the influence of alcohol and the car was also found to be without insurance.
Two Cars Were Racing
According to Pappu, a resident of Renwal who was caught at the spot, the Audi was being driven by Dinesh Ranwan from Churu. He told police that Dinesh had called him near Kharbas Circle and two more people were sitting in the Audi. The car then started racing with another vehicle at very high speed. When the Audi hit the divider, the other racing car turned back and fled.
Car Turned Into a Missile
After hitting the divider, the driver lost control and drove straight into the food stalls, smashing more than 10 stalls. Due to the impact, another car overturned. The Audi finally stopped after crashing into a tree nearly 100 metres away. Most of the injured were stall operators and customers.
Police Investigation On
Patrakar Colony SHO Gunjan Soni said injured victims were rushed to hospital with the help of locals. Police are searching for the absconding accused and are scanning CCTV footage. A case has been registered for rash driving, drunk driving and illegal racing.
