Pali: In the Pali district of Rajasthan, the Om Banna Temple has become a unique center of faith and mystery for travelers from across India and abroad. What makes this shrine extraordinary is that it is not dedicated to any god or goddess, but to a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle (registration number RJN 7773). Locally, it is famously known as the Bullet Baba Temple.
A Tragedy That Started a Legend
The story dates back to 1991, when Om Singh Rathore, popularly known as Om Banna, died in a road accident near the village of Chotila in Pali district. According to locals, his motorcycle went out of control and hit a tree, killing him on the spot. After the accident, the police seized the bike and kept it at the police station.
What happened next turned the incident into a legend. As per local accounts, the very next morning, the motorcycle mysteriously disappeared from the police station and was found back at the accident site. The police reportedly tried several times to keep the bike locked at the station, even draining its fuel and chaining it, but each time, it was said to reappear at the same spot where the accident had occurred.
These repeated incidents shocked both the police and villagers. Gradually, what began as a mystery turned into a matter of faith. The locals built a small shrine at the spot, which eventually became known as the Om Banna Temple. Today, the motorcycle is kept safely inside a glass case at the temple.
A Unique Form of Worship
Devotees who visit the temple offer not only flowers, garlands, coconuts, and incense, but also small bottles of liquor and cigarettes. It is believed that Om Banna used to drink alcohol, which is why such offerings are made. The motorcycle is marked with a tilak, and visitors pray for a safe journey.
Many travelers passing through the highway stop here to pay their respects. They believe that those who seek blessings at the temple travel safely, while stories are often told locally about accidents befalling those who ignore the shrine. Over time, such beliefs have made the temple a strong symbol of folk faith.
Today, Om Banna is worshipped as a local deity, and the temple has become not just a religious site, but also a reflection of Rajasthan’s folk culture and traditions. While there is no scientific proof behind these events, the faith of the people remains unshaken.
