Bus Falls Into River During Ferry Boarding
A passenger bus carrying around 40–50 people plunged into the Padma River at the Daulatdia ferry terminal in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred around 5:15 pm when the Dhaka-bound vehicle lost control while attempting to board a ferry. Reports suggest a collision with another vessel or a sudden loss of control caused the bus to fall into the river.
Death Toll Rises, Survivors Escape
Authorities confirmed that at least 23 people have died, while several passengers remain missing. A few individuals managed to swim to safety immediately after the incident. Many others were trapped inside the submerged bus, which sank rapidly, making rescue efforts difficult.
Massive Rescue Operation Underway
Divers, fire service teams, and law enforcement agencies launched an intensive rescue operation. A salvage vessel helped retrieve the bus after hours of effort, while search teams continue to look for missing passengers. Officials have also ordered an investigation, raising concerns about ferry terminal safety at one of the country’s busiest river crossings.
