Bihar Congress Returns from Delhi Review Meet; Rajesh Ram Rejects Defection Rumours, Says Vote Base Stayed Strong

Patna: After attending a crucial post-election review meeting in Delhi, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram and several party leaders arrived back in Patna on Thursday. Rajesh Ram said the leadership had called them to assess the reasons behind the party’s disappointing performance in the recent Assembly elections.

He explained that the meeting was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, senior leaders presented their collective observations, and in the second, each leader was asked individually to share their insights. “Everyone put forward their points openly, and two key conclusions emerged,” he said, “Our Core Vote Share Remained Stable”

Rajesh Ram highlighted two major factors:

  1. Influence of Direct Cash Transfers:
He alleged that certain voter groups, especially women, received money in their accounts before the elections, which influenced voting behaviour. “People at polling booths were openly discussing whether they got money. The election results clearly reflect this trend,” he claimed.
  2. Congress Maintained Its Support Base:
He stated that despite the INDIA Alliance contesting all 243 seats, the Congress vote percentage did not fall. “Our candidates retained their vote share, and in many areas, our votes even increased,” he said.

“Claims of MLAs Leaving for JD(U) Are Completely False”

On reports that four Congress MLAs were in touch with JD(U), Rajesh Ram firmly denied the speculation. “These are baseless rumours. If there is any proof, show it to me—I’ll take action immediately. Such misinformation often circulates during election periods,” he said.

He reassured that the party is united and that leaders and workers are fully committed. The Congress plans to conduct district-wide tours soon to strengthen the organisational structure at the grassroots level.
