Big Promise, Bigger Challenge
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA secured 293 seats nationally but fell short of the 400 mark. In Bihar, the alliance performed well, leading in 174 assembly segments. However, translating that parliamentary strength into state-level dominance won’t be easy.
Bihar’s assembly elections are driven by local caste dynamics, leadership credibility, and ground-level development issues — factors that don’t always align with national trends.
Nitish Kumar Faces Multi-Front Battle
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has led the state for nearly two decades, remains the face of the NDA campaign. But his long tenure brings anti-incumbency concerns and voter fatigue.
The NDA’s partner BJP, meanwhile, aims to consolidate upper-caste and extremely backward caste (EBC) votes, while the Mahagathbandhan led by Tejashwi Yadav banks on the Yadav-Muslim base.
Adding a twist to the contest, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party plans to contest all 243 seats, potentially splitting votes and altering equations in several key constituencies.
‘Sankalp Patra’ Promises 1 Crore Jobs
To woo voters, the NDA’s manifesto — the “Sankalp Patra” — promises one crore new jobs, free healthcare, and major infrastructure upgrades. These populist pledges aim to attract Bihar’s youth, who form a large segment of the electorate.
Ground Reality Check
Analysts suggest that while crossing 122 seats would ensure a fifth term for the NDA, reaching 160 seats will be “an uphill task.”
