The picture from the Bihar Assembly election count is becoming increasingly clear, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is dominating the scoreboard. Out of all 243 constituencies, early trends show the NDA leading in 208 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan is ahead in only 29.
NDA Surges Ahead, Mahagathbandhan Suffers Major Setback
Compared to the 2020 elections, the NDA appears to be gaining over 65 additional seats, while the Mahagathbandhan seems to be losing roughly the same number. The JDU, which had been restricted to 43 seats in the last election, is now leading in over 75 constituencies, positioning Nitish Kumar to take oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time. Meanwhile, the BJP is emerging as the single largest party with leads in 94 seats.
Mahagathbandhan Struggles, Congress Nearly Wiped Out
Within the Mahagathbandhan, the RJD is ahead in 24 seats, but the Congress, contesting 61 constituencies, is leading in just one.
Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which fielded candidates on all 243 seats, appears unlikely to open its account. Mukesh Sahni’s party is also yet to register a lead.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the BJP headquarters in Delhi at 6 PM to join party workers as the NDA sails toward a sweeping victory.
JDU’s Brief Social Media Flare-Up
In an interesting turn, the JDU briefly posted on social media:
“Nitish Kumar was, is, and will remain Chief Minister.”
The post was deleted within 20 minutes, sparking discussions online.
