Delhi HC Calls for Vigilance, Peace in Uttam Nagar Amid Eid Tension

The Delhi High Court has directed authorities to maintain peace and heightened vigilance in Uttam Nagar following reports of communal tension and threats linked to Eid celebrations. The court emphasized that law enforcement must act proactively to prevent any escalation.

Background: Violence After Holi Incident

Tension in the area has remained high since a violent clash during Holi led to the death of a 26-year-old man. The incident triggered protests, arrests, and fear among residents, with concerns growing over possible unrest during upcoming religious events.

Court Orders Strong Security Measures

The bench instructed police and civil administration to take all necessary legal steps to ensure a peaceful environment for Eid. Authorities have been asked to remain alert and ensure that no individual or group disrupts harmony. The court stressed that even minor negligence could worsen the situation.

Focus on Eid and Ram Navami

Security arrangements will remain strict not only for Eid but also until Ram Navami. The court highlighted the importance of maintaining communal harmony during consecutive festivals and directed officials to ensure citizens feel safe.

Fear, Threats and Preventive Action

Petitions before the court raised concerns about hate speech, threats like “khoon ki holi,” and fear among residents. Some families reportedly shut shops or left temporarily due to safety concerns.

Next Hearing Scheduled

The matter will be heard again in early April, with the court expecting authorities to maintain strict vigilance and prevent any untoward incidents.
