Election Commission Begins Preparations for West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a significant step toward the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. Amid ongoing coordination between the ECI and the State Election Department, preparations have officially begun, including updates to several rules related to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Officials confirmed that EVM checking and verification will commence from Friday, along with the initial round of mock voting. Deputy Election Commissioner Nitesh Vyas chaired an important review meeting in Kolkata on Friday, discussing readiness and technical arrangements for the 2026 elections.

During the meeting, he interacted with First-Level Checking (FLC) teams, technical officers, and ECI representatives to evaluate EVM functionality, VVPAT security, storage protocols, and logistical planning. According to officials, the State Election Department currently has a full stock of required EVMs, VVPATs, and other equipment to ensure smooth election preparations.
