Preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 have intensified as authorities began briefing and training sessions for personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). The initiative is aimed at ensuring smooth, secure, and transparent elections across the state.
The briefing session was conducted under the supervision of officials from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal. Senior officers explained the responsibilities and protocols that security personnel will follow during the election process, including maintaining law and order, protecting polling stations, and assisting election officials during voting and counting procedures.
The deployment of CAPF personnel is considered a crucial step in maintaining security during elections in West Bengal. According to election authorities, a large number of central forces will be stationed across sensitive districts to strengthen confidence among voters and ensure a peaceful polling environment.
As part of the election preparations, the central government has approved the deployment of around 480 companies of CAPF in two phases ahead of the poll schedule. The first batch of about 240 companies arrived in the state at the beginning of March, while the remaining units are expected to be deployed shortly afterward. These forces will assist with area domination, confidence-building measures, and the protection of electronic voting machines and strong rooms.
Election officials stated that the presence of central security forces will also help prevent any disturbances during polling days. The forces will be responsible for guarding polling booths, securing sensitive locations, and ensuring the safe transportation and storage of voting machines until the counting process is completed.
The 2026 West Bengal Assembly election will determine representatives for all 294 seats in the state legislative assembly, making it one of the most significant political events in the region. The elections are expected to take place before May 2026, with political parties already intensifying their preparations and campaigns.
Political observers believe that the early deployment and training of CAPF personnel indicate the Election Commission’s focus on conducting the polls in a peaceful and transparent manner. Given the state’s history of intense political competition, authorities are taking extra precautions to ensure that voters can exercise their democratic rights without fear or disruption.
