In poll-bound West Bengal a war of words has intensified, with both Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP releasing rival “charge sheet” against each other ahead of the assembly elections.
Amit Shah alleges corruption violence and infiltration
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday unveiled the BJP’s charge sheet in Kolkata, accusing the All India Trinamool Congress government of fostering “fear, corruption and violence” over the past 15 years. Farming the upcoming elections asa choice between “fear and trust,” Shah alleged that the state witnessed rising infiltration, lawlessness and economic decline under Chief Minister Mamta Banarjee.
Leaders question BJP governance in states
He further claimed that West Bengal has become a key corridor for infiltration, linking the issue to national security concerns. Shah also said the BJP’s charge sheet reflects the “voice of the people” and expressed confidence that the party would form the next government in the state.
The BJP leader was joined by state president Samik Bhattacharya and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who have been actively campaigning across the state.
TMC counters with detailed rebuttal document
Within hours, the TMC hit back with its own counter “charge sheet,” escalating the political confrontation. Senior leaders, including Bratya Basu and Mahua Moitra, dismissed the BJP’s allegations, terming them politically motivated and baseless.
The ruling party released a 15-page document titled “Mota Bhai, Jawab Chai,” countering the BJP’s claims point by point. TMC leaders accused the BJP of diverting attention from issues in states it governs, raising concerns over women’s safety and incidents in places like Manipur and Uttar Pradesh.
SIR process becomes fresh political flashpoint
Responding to allegations of infiltration and demographic change, TMC leaders questioned the Centre’s handling of national security, asking why details of past terror incidents were not made public. They also alleged that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls is a “conspiracy” aimed at targeting voters in Bengal.
