Election Commission Announces 2026 Assembly Poll Schedule
The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the 2026 Assembly elections in five regions- West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and the Union Territory of Puducherry. The elections will determine new governments in these regions as current assemblies near the end of their terms.
Voting Dates for Each State
According to the poll panel, voting in Kerala, Assam and Puducherry will take place in a single phase on April 9, 2026. Tamil Nadu will vote on April 23 in a single phase. Meanwhile, West Bengal will go to polls in two phases on April 23 and April 29.
Counting of Votes on May 4
The Election Commission confirmed that vote counting for all five regions will be conducted on May 4, 2026. Around 17.4 crore voters are expected to participate across more than 800 assembly seats in these elections.
Political parties are expected to intensify campaigning in the coming weeks as the election process begins and the Model Code of Conduct comes into force across the poll-bound states.
