Calcutta University Convocation Returns to Campus After Six Years at Centenary Auditorium

In a long‑awaited academic milestone, Calcutta University to hold convocation on campus after six years – Telegraph India announced that the university will hold its convocation on March 23 at the Centenary Auditorium on the College Street campus.

Return to Historic Campus Venue

This ceremony marks the first time the convocation will take place on the College Street grounds since 2016, ending a six‑year interval. The event’s location was shifted to Nazrul Mancha for the 2020 ceremony owing to renovation work at the Centenary Auditorium.

Distinguished Guests and Awards

Governor R.N. Ravi, serving as the ex officio chancellor, is set to preside over the function. The convocation address will be delivered by Suman Chakraborty, director of IIT Kharagpur.

Degrees and Honoris Causa Honors

Around 1,100 research scholars who completed their PhDs between 2024 and 2026 are expected to receive their degrees. Additionally, honorary degrees (DSc and DLitt) will be awarded to eminent personalities including Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar, Ranajit Das, and Fr. Thomas Chatamparampil.

Medals and Tradition Resumed

The ceremony will also see 10 medals conferred to distinguished academics. Officials said the gap since the last convocation was due to pandemic disruptions and administrative transitions.
