Indians Cross Into Armenia And Azerbaijan Amid Iran Crisis
Hundreds of Indian nationals have begun leaving Iran through neighbouring countries as tensions continue to rise in West Asia. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), more than 550 Indians have crossed the land border into Armenia, while around 90 others entered Azerbaijan with assistance from the Indian embassy in Tehran.
Embassy Assists With Travel And Documentation
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian embassy helped citizens complete visa and immigration procedures to ensure a smooth exit from Iran. Many of the evacuees were pilgrims, with about 284 people among the group who travelled to the country for religious purposes.
Government Monitoring Situation Closely
Officials stated that some evacuees have already returned to India, while others are expected to fly back in the coming days from Armenia and Azerbaijan. The embassy in Tehran continues to operate and has also moved several Indian students from areas outside the capital to safer cities.
India has also advised its citizens in Iran to use land routes to Armenia or Azerbaijan if they wish to leave the country amid the ongoing regional tensions.
