New Delhi : Another shocking CCTV footage has surfaced from the Delhi Red Fort blast that rocked the national capital on Monday evening. The new visuals show chaos in Chandni Chowk’s narrow lanes as panic-stricken people rush into nearby shops moments after the explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station parking area.
12 Dead, Over 20 Injured in Powerful Explosion
The blast, which occurred at 6:52 PM near the Red Fort Metro Station, has so far claimed 12 lives, including two women. More than 20 others are critically injured and are being treated at various hospitals in Delhi. Officials confirmed that the identity of two victims has been established, while others will be confirmed through DNA testing.
Forensic Teams Recover 42 Pieces of Evidence
By Tuesday evening, forensic experts had collected at least 42 crucial pieces of evidence from the site, including parts of the white i20 car used in the explosion—its tires, chassis, CNG cylinder, and bonnet fragments. Detailed forensic analysis will begin on Wednesday to trace the source and nature of the IED blast.
Prime Suspect Identified as Dr. Mohammad Umar Nabi
According to Delhi Police, the suspected bomber has been identified as Dr. Mohammad Umar Nabi, a resident of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. CCTV footage revealed that Umar sat inside the car for nearly three hours before the explosion, wearing a black mask. Investigators believe he detonated the bomb while inside the vehicle.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken over the case to probe possible terror links, including connections to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
NIA Expands Probe: Multiple Detentions Across States
Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained Umar’s parents and two brothers for DNA verification. In addition, Umar’s associate Dr. Sajjad, also from Pulwama, has been taken into custody. Meanwhile, a woman identified as Dr. Shaheen Shahid was arrested from Faridabad, Haryana. She is reportedly the head of ‘Jamaat-ul-Momineen’, the women’s wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed, led by Sadia Masood, sister of terrorist Azhar Masood in Pakistan.
Delhi Government Announces Compensation
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced financial assistance of ₹10 lakh for the families of those killed in the blast. Victims who suffered permanent disabilities will receive ₹5 lakh, while severely injured individuals will get ₹2 lakh. The Delhi government has pledged to cover all medical expenses for the injured.
