Pakistani politician Nabeel Gabol has sparked a major online debate after criticising the Bollywood film Dhurandhar 2 (also known as Dhurandhar: The Revenge). The controversy centres on the character Jameel Jamali, played by veteran actor Rakesh Bedi.
Gabol, a senior leader from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) associated with Karachi’s Lyari area, had earlier claimed that the character in the first part of the film appeared inspired by his political life and background. However, after the release of Dhurandhar 2, he has strongly distanced himself from the role, especially following a major plot twist that reveals Jameel Jamali as an undercover Indian intelligence operative.
Gabol’s Reaction
In video interviews and statements circulating online, Nabeel Gabol expressed displeasure with the portrayal. He said he is “not happy” with how the character was depicted in the sequel and criticised the way Lyari has been shown in the film. He denied any direct connection, calling the storyline exaggerated and not reflective of reality.
The twist in Dhurandhar 2 has led to widespread trolling and memes on social media, with many users joking about the sudden change in Gabol’s stance from the first film to the second.
Filmmakers’ Stand
Actors and the film team have maintained that Jameel Jamali is a fictional character and not directly based on any real person. Rakesh Bedi has also clarified that he only adopted a certain look for the role, and any resemblance is coincidental.
