New Delhi: In a landmark announcement, Microsoft has committed to invest US$ 17.5 billion (around ₹1.5 lakh crore) in India — its largest ever investment in Asia — to accelerate the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and digital ecosystem.
The declaration came after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening in New Delhi. In a post on X, Nadella said: “Thank you, PM @narendramodi ji, for an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity. To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B — our largest investment ever in Asia — to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI-first future.”

The investment will fund the expansion of cloud computing and AI infrastructure across India — including data centres, high-performance computing, and hyperscale cloud presence — to support AI deployment at scale.
