Indian rapper and music producer Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, is facing legal trouble after the Haryana Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him over his recently released Haryanvi song “Tateeree.” Authorities allege that the song contains objectionable lyrics and visuals that could negatively impact society.
The case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Panchkula, Haryana, following a complaint by a local resident who accused the song of including obscene language and inappropriate imagery.
Allegations of Objectionable Lyrics and Visuals
According to the complaint, the music video features scenes and lyrics that allegedly portray women in an indecent manner and may send the wrong message to viewers. Authorities have stated that the case has been filed under provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The controversy intensified after critics claimed the video also depicts girls in school uniforms in a setting resembling a classroom or school environment, which they argued was inappropriate.
Women’s Commission Summons the Rapper
The Haryana State Commission for Women also took cognisance of the issue and issued a summons to Badshah. The commission has asked the singer to appear before it and explain the content of the song and its alleged impact on society, particularly on young audiences.
Officials said the commission received multiple complaints claiming that the song’s lyrics violate cultural norms and disrespect the dignity of women.
Police Action and Investigation
Police officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway, and notices have been issued to the rapper in connection with the case. Authorities are also examining whether any legal permissions were obtained for filming the scenes used in the music video.
Reports suggest that police teams have been conducting searches and taking further steps, including considering a Look Out Circular, to ensure the artist cooperates with the investigation.
