A disturbing case of alleged exploitation has come to light in Maharashtra’s Latur district, where a woman was reportedly forced into three marriages and later attempted suicide after prolonged harassment. The incident has led to the arrest of four individuals, and police suspect that the case may be connected to a wider trafficking racket operating under the guise of arranging marriages.
According to police officials, the woman was repeatedly forced into marriages by people who allegedly arranged the alliances in exchange for money. Investigators said that in the most recent instance, the accused arranged her third marriage earlier this month with a man from Kanadi (Budruk) village in the Ashti tehsil of Beed district. Authorities believe that the accused collected around ₹4.5 lakh as part of the deal.
The victim reportedly endured severe mental and emotional distress after being compelled into multiple marriages against her will. Unable to cope with the situation, she allegedly attempted suicide, which brought the case to the attention of authorities and triggered a police investigation.
Following a complaint and preliminary inquiry, police launched an operation and arrested four suspects believed to be involved in arranging the fraudulent marriages. Investigators are now questioning the accused to determine how the scheme operated and whether more individuals were involved in exploiting women through similar arrangements.
Police officials suspect that the case may not be an isolated incident. They believe it could be part of a broader network that traffics women by arranging forced marriages in exchange for money. Such rackets often target vulnerable women and families, promising marriage alliances while secretly operating as organized trafficking networks.
