Raghav Chadha has raised concerns over misleading advertising in the packaged beverage industry, questioning whether many so-called fruit juices are actually sugar-heavy drinks. He highlighted the issue in Parliament, warning that consumers are being misled by attractive packaging and branding.
Misleading Labels Under Scrutiny
Chadha pointed out that many products display images of fresh fruits prominently, creating an impression of healthy juice. However, the actual contents often include added sugar, concentrates, and preservatives. Important disclaimers appear in small print, making it difficult for consumers to notice.
Health Risks and Consumer Awareness
He stressed that such marketing tactics can harm public health, especially among children. Regular consumption of high-sugar beverages may increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, and other lifestyle diseases. Chadha urged better awareness and transparency in labeling.
Demand for Stricter Regulations
The AAP leader asked the government to enforce clearer front-of-pack labeling and regulate visual advertising. He also questioned what steps are being taken to ensure consumers can easily distinguish real fruit juice from sugary drinks.
