The Election Commission of India has removed seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel from election duty in West Bengal after they attended an Iftar gathering, violating poll guidelines. The incident occurred earlier this month in Murshidabad, a sensitive district ahead of the ongoing elections.
Strict Action Over Rule Violation
Authorities acted after finding that the personnel had attended a social event despite clear instructions prohibiting such engagements during poll deployment. Officials stressed that security forces must maintain neutrality and avoid any form of hospitality or invitations while on duty.
Disciplinary Measures Announced
Among those penalised, three personnel were sent to paramilitary custody for a week, while two received formal warnings. Departmental proceedings have begun against the remaining members, with further action likely after investigation.
Monitoring During Elections
The Commission has tightened monitoring by introducing GPS tracking, mandatory reporting, and surprise inspections. The move aims to ensure strict compliance and uphold free and fair elections in the state.
