New Delhi: With the financial year 2025–26 coming to an end, March 31 has emerged as a crucial deadline for taxpayers and investors across India. Experts warn that missing important financial tasks before this date could lead to penalties, loss of tax benefits, or even inactive accounts.
One of the most critical tasks is maintaining minimum deposits in small savings schemes like Public Provident Fund (PPF), Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), and National Pension System (NPS). If account holders fail to deposit the required minimum amount before March 31, their accounts may become inactive, affecting interest earnings and future tax benefits.
Apart from this, taxpayers must complete tax-saving investments under Section 80C to claim deductions of up to ₹1.5 lakh. Contributions made after the deadline will not be considered for the current financial year, directly impacting tax liability.
Submitting investment proofs to employers is another important requirement. Failure to do so could result in higher TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) from salary, reducing immediate take-home income.
Additionally, individuals planning to apply for a PAN card using Aadhaar should do so before March 31, as rules are expected to change from April 1, requiring more documentation.
Financial experts emphasize that March 31 is not just a deadline but an opportunity to optimize tax planning. Missing these tasks can lead to higher taxes, penalties, and unnecessary financial stress.
Act before March 31 to secure tax benefits, keep your accounts active, and stay financially compliant.
