The Maharashtra government has closed around 68 lakh beneficiary accounts under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana after many recipients failed to complete mandatory e-KYC verification within the deadline.
Officials stated that the verification drive was conducted to ensure only eligible women continue to receive the scheme’s benefits.
Reason for Account Closure
Out of 2.43 crore registered accounts, nearly 68 lakh were closed due to non-completion of e-KYC. The government had received complaints that ineligible persons, including men and government employees, were wrongly availing the ₹1,500 monthly benefit.
Deadline Extended
To give relief to genuine beneficiaries, the government has extended the e-KYC deadline till April 30, 2026. Those whose accounts were closed can still complete the process by this date to reactivate their accounts.
About the Scheme
The Ladki Bahin Yojana provides ₹1,500 per month to women from economically weaker sections. The state government spends approximately ₹3,700 crore every month on this flagship women’s welfare scheme.
What Happens Next
After the closure of unverified accounts, the number of active beneficiaries has reduced significantly. However, the scheme will continue, and eligible women who complete e-KYC will keep receiving the financial assistance.
