New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament entered its third day on Wednesday with a mix of strategic meetings and heightened political protests. Before proceedings began at 11 am, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs from West Bengal inside the Parliament complex.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister urged MPs to begin groundwork immediately for the 2026 Bengal Assembly elections, stressing that “victory must be ensured.” He also instructed them to intensify efforts to communicate central government policies to every citizen in the state.
The meeting held additional weight as a major discussion on SIR is scheduled for 9 December, covering Bengal and 11 other states and Union Territories.
Opposition Targets Labour Codes, Air Pollution
Meanwhile, the Opposition held a strong demonstration before the House convened.
At 10:30 am, MPs from the Congress, DMK, TMC, Left parties and others gathered at Parliament’s Makar Dwar to protest against the new labour codes, demanding they be scrapped.
Top leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi participated in the protest. The MPs carried posters and placards and raised slogans calling for a complete rollback of the new labour laws.
Some Opposition MPs also arrived wearing gas masks to highlight severe air pollution in Delhi.
Session Disruptions Continue
By 11 am, both Houses resumed discussions, but tensions remained high. On 1 and 2 December, proceedings were repeatedly disrupted due to Opposition uproar over SIR, preventing normal House functioning.
