Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two landmark additions to the Delhi Metro network, marking a transformative upgrade in urban transit for India’s capital. The newly opened corridors include the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line, together reinforcing commuter connectivity across key parts of north, west and northeast Delhi.
Delhi’s First Operational Ring Metro
The Majlis Park–Maujpur‑Babarpur section of the Pink Line measuring approximately 12.3 km with eight elevated stations now completes Delhi’s first fully operational ring-shaped metro loop, popularly referred to as the Ring Metro. With this extension, the Pink Line’s total length reaches around 71.56 km, linking previously disconnected corridors and significantly reducing travel time for thousands of daily commuters. A notable engineering highlight is a new bridge across the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct that integrates metro tracks with a road flyover.
Magenta Line Extension Enhances Northwest Connectivity
The Magenta Line extension from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park about 9.9 km long with seven stations expands the line’s network to nearly 49 km. This elevated segment features some of the highest viaducts in the metro system and connects vital residential and commercial hubs in northwest Delhi. These new stations provide smoother access for commuters traveling across multiple districts.

Officials highlighted that the new corridors will ease traffic congestion, increase public transport usage, and improve commuter connectivity across Delhi. Both the Pink Line and Magenta Line extensions integrate seamlessly with existing metro lines, ensuring faster and more convenient travel across the capital.
Phase‑V Expansion: Future Metro Projects
In addition to the inaugurations, Prime Minister Modi laid foundation stones for three new metro corridors under the Phase V (A) expansion plan. This includes the Central Vista underground corridor and two Golden Line extensions, which aim to further link Delhi with nearby regions and the airport, supporting sustainable urban growth.
