Gunshot Fired Near Farooq Abdullah at Wedding Event
Veteran politician Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a wedding function in Jammu. The incident occurred when the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir was leaving the venue after attending the ceremony.
Recalling the moment, the 88-year-old leader said he heard a loud sound but initially believed it was a wedding firecracker. He later realised that a gunshot had been fired near him. Abdullah said he even felt a brief sensation of heat but did not immediately understand what had happened.
Gunman Quickly Overpowered by Security
Security personnel present at the venue quickly overpowered the attacker before any further harm could occur. The accused was later identified as 63-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Jammu. Authorities confirmed that the weapon used was a licensed firearm.
Police Rule Out Terror Angle
Officials said preliminary investigations have ruled out any terror link to the attack. The suspect has been taken into custody and is being questioned by police. Abdullah later said he survived the incident by “God’s grace,” thanking security personnel for their swift response.
