Violent Clash Inside Germany Gurudwara: ‘Flying Turbans, Drawn Kirpans’ Leave 11 Injured

A shocking incident of violence has emerged from Moers, where a Gurudwara turned into a battleground after clashes broke out between two Sikh groups. The violent confrontation left at least 11 people injured and triggered a massive police response.

The incident, which took place inside a religious place, has sparked outrage within the Sikh community and raised concerns about internal disputes escalating into violence.

Gurudwara Turns Into Battleground

According to reports, the clash occurred at a Gurudwara in the Duisburg area of Moers, where more than 40 individuals were involved in a violent altercation.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with people running out in panic while others engaged in physical fights inside the sacred premises. Videos circulating on social media showed turbans flying and kirpans being used during the clash, highlighting the intensity of the violence.

Weapons Used During the Clash

The situation escalated quickly as multiple weapons were reportedly used during the confrontation, including:

  • Kirpans (ceremonial Sikh swords)
  • Knives
  • Pepper spray
  • A firearm

Witnesses claimed that attackers used pepper spray before one individual allegedly fired a pistol, adding to the panic inside the Gurudwara.

Authorities later recovered cartridge cases, though initial reports suggest the firearm may have been a blank-firing weapon.

Massive Police Response

The violence prompted a large-scale police operation. German authorities deployed:

  • Around 100 police officers
  • Special tactical units (SEK)
  • A helicopter for aerial surveillance

Police sealed off the area and later entered the Gurudwara amid fears of an armed suspect. At least one person has been detained so far, and investigations are ongoing.

What Triggered the Violence?

While the exact cause is still under investigation, early reports suggest that the clash may have been triggered by internal disputes over Gurudwara management and finances.

The conflict is believed to involve disagreements between:

  • Former committee members
  • Current management
  • Control over community funds (Golak money)

An eyewitness stated that tensions had been building for a long time, mainly over influence and authority within the Gurudwara.

Panic Among Devotees

The violence created panic among devotees present at the Gurudwara. Several people reportedly fled the premises barefoot as the situation spiraled out of control.

Emergency services treated the injured at the scene, with most victims suffering head injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

Reaction from Sikh Community

The incident has drawn strong reactions from members of the Sikh community worldwide. Many have expressed shock and disappointment over violence occurring inside a place of worship.

Community voices described the clash as “shameful,” noting that sacred symbols like the kirpan—traditionally meant for protection—were used during the fight.

Wider Implications

This घटना highlights deeper issues within diaspora communities, where internal disputes over leadership and finances can sometimes escalate into serious conflicts.

It also raises concerns about security at religious institutions in Europe and the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms within community organizations.
