India has reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that peaceful negotiations and diplomatic engagement remain the best way to reduce tensions and restore stability in the region.
Speaking in Parliament, Jaishankar said the ongoing developments in West Asia are a matter of serious concern for India. He emphasised that the government believes all parties involved in the conflict should exercise restraint and focus on de-escalation through diplomatic channels.
The minister highlighted that India has consistently supported peaceful solutions in global conflicts. According to Jaishankar, dialogue and diplomacy are essential to reduce hostilities and ensure the protection of civilians affected by the fighting.
India is also closely monitoring the situation because of its strong economic and strategic ties with countries in the Middle East. The region is vital for India’s energy security and trade, and any prolonged conflict could affect global oil supplies and regional stability.
Another major concern for the government is the safety of Indian citizens living in the region. Jaishankar noted that nearly one crore Indians live and work in Gulf countries, while several students and professionals are currently in Iran. Authorities are working to ensure their safety and are coordinating with embassies and local governments to provide assistance if required.
The minister also informed Parliament that the government has already issued advisories for Indian nationals and is making efforts to help those who wish to return to India amid the rising tensions.
