IndiGo Says Operations Will Normalise in 3 Days; Expects Full Stability by December 10

IndiGo’s ongoing operational crisis entered its sixth consecutive day, with disruptions showing no sign of easing. After cancelling more than 800 flights on Saturday, India’s largest airline saw over 650 flights grounded on Sunday as well, affecting major cities including Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Mumbai, and Tiruchirappalli.

Despite the continued cancellations, IndiGo claims operations have stabilised on 95% of routes, saying that 135 out of its 138 destinations are now receiving regular flight services. The airline admitted that regaining passenger trust will “take time.”

Earlier, IndiGo cancelled nearly 1,600 flights on Friday, marking one of the biggest operational meltdowns in Indian aviation history.

Government Steps In: Strict Orders Issued to IndiGo

With thousands of passengers stranded across airports nationwide, the Central Government and DGCA have announced tough directives:

1. Full Refund Mandate

IndiGo must process all refunds for cancelled or heavily delayed flights by December 7, 8 PM.

2. 48-Hour Deadline for Lost Baggage

All untraced or misplaced baggage must be located and delivered to passengers within 48 hours.

3. Explanation from IndiGo Leadership

The airline’s CEO has been asked to explain within 24 hours why action should not be taken over the five-day crisis.
Failure to respond will allow DGCA to take unilateral action.

4. Fare Surge Ban Across Airlines

To protect passengers from exploitation:

  • No airline can charge more than ₹7,500 for routes up to 500 km
  • Maximum ₹12,000 for 500–1,000 km
  • Overall fare cap: ₹18,000 (Business class exempt)

These temporary fare controls aim to curb sharp increases triggered by IndiGo’s mass cancellations.

IndiGo Says Operations Will Normalise in 3 Days

IndiGo released a fresh statement on Sunday, announcing that its flight operations are expected to return to normal within the next three days. The airline said it anticipates full operational stability by December 10, offering some relief to passengers affected by large-scale cancellations over the past week.
