New Delhi: The fourth day of Parliament’s Winter Session began with a strong demonstration by Opposition MPs at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Thursday. Several MPs arrived wearing gas masks to highlight the worsening air pollution in Delhi, demanding that the issue be immediately taken up for discussion in both Houses.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the government for ignoring the severity of the crisis. “What season are we supposed to enjoy? Just look at the outside conditions. As Sonia ji said, children can’t breathe, many are suffering from asthma, and senior citizens are finding it difficult to even step out. The situation is deteriorating every year,” she said.
Today, Parliament may also take up discussions on tax reforms, excise amendments, nuclear energy, and economic reforms. On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha passed the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill 2025, increasing excise duty on tobacco products and their manufacturing.
Congress MP Manish Tewari said he has submitted a Suspension of Business Notice to urgently discuss Delhi’s air pollution crisis. “People are suffering. Children are unable to breathe properly. This is a major public health emergency,” he said.
