Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Lok Sabha, outlining steps taken to protect Indian citizens and maintain energy security amid the escalating West Asia crisis. He said the government is prioritising both the safety of Indians abroad and the uninterrupted supply of essential fuels.
Safety of Indians in Gulf and Iran
Modi stated that over 3.75 lakh Indians have returned safely since the conflict began, including around 1,000 evacuees from Iran. Indian missions in Gulf countries are assisting citizens through helplines and emergency services. He added that discussions with regional leaders ensured continued protection of Indian nationals.
LPG Supply and Energy Security Measures
Highlighting energy concerns, the Prime Minister said domestic LPG supply is being prioritised due to global disruptions. The government is monitoring shipping routes, especially through the Strait of Hormuz, to maintain supplies of oil, gas and fertilisers. He emphasised that India has diversified energy imports to reduce risks.
Impact on Economy and Farmers
Modi reassured that India has sufficient food grain and coal stocks, ensuring no disruption in agriculture or power supply. He said the government remains committed to supporting farmers and keeping fuel prices stable despite global uncertainties.
