Court Upholds India’s Assurances
A UK High Court on Thursday refused fugitive businessman Nirav Modi a fresh opportunity to reopen his extradition fight to India. Modi’s Legal Argument Fails
Modi, accused in the large‑scale Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud of ₹6,498 crore, had argued that returning to India would expose him to further questioning and mistreatment. The court ruled that these claims did not amount to exceptional grounds to revisit the case.
Next Steps in Extradition
Modi has been held in a UK prison since his arrest in March 2019 and has repeatedly lost legal bids to contest extradition. With this latest setback, his route to reversal narrows further as India advances its prosecution.
