Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent during his two-day state visit to Uzbekistan. The meeting focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan and expanding cooperation across several key sectors.
PM Modi is visiting Uzbekistan on August 29 and 30 at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This is Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan, highlighting the importance India attaches to its relations with the Central Asian nation.
The two leaders discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defence, energy, digital connectivity, education and people-to-people ties.
Trade, Investment and Energy High on the Agenda
During the meeting, both sides emphasised the need to further expand trade and investment between India and Uzbekistan. Energy cooperation also emerged as an important area of discussion, with both countries looking to explore new opportunities for collaboration.
The two nations are also working to strengthen cooperation in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, science and technology, education and other sectors.
India and Uzbekistan have maintained close diplomatic relations and have been steadily expanding their strategic partnership, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and regional connectivity.
Focus on Development Goals
The discussions also included the development priorities of both countries. India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Uzbekistan’s Uzbekistan-2030 development strategy provide opportunities for greater cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The two leaders are expected to further strengthen the framework of the India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership and identify new areas of collaboration.
PM Modi Receives Warm Welcome in Tashkent
Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome in Tashkent following his arrival in Uzbekistan. During his visit, he also participated in engagements highlighting the cultural and people-to-people relationship between India and Uzbekistan.
PM Modi’s visit is particularly significant as India continues to strengthen its engagement with Central Asian countries under its broader regional outreach strategy.
Following his Uzbekistan visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
The visit is expected to further strengthen India’s diplomatic and strategic engagement in Central Asia and provide an opportunity for discussions on regional security, connectivity, trade and economic cooperation.
