In a significant development, an Indian business delegation has reached China after a gap of more than five years. The visit is seen as a key step towards reviving commercial ties between the two major Asian economies.
The delegation, led by the Punjab, Haryana, Delhi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), is visiting major industrial hubs including Shanghai and Jiangsu province from March 29 to April 4, 2026.
First Visit Since 2020 Border Tensions
This marks the first major Indian trade delegation to China since bilateral relations were strained following the 2020 military standoff in eastern Ladakh. Recent diplomatic efforts and high-level meetings have helped create space for renewed business engagement.
Focus on Emerging Sectors
Delegates are meeting Chinese companies, financial institutions, and industry associations to explore collaboration in electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, infrastructure, and information technology.
A business roundtable organised by India’s Consulate General in Shanghai brought together representatives from both sides to discuss potential partnerships and investment opportunities.
Strengthening Economic Relations
The visit aims to rebuild confidence between the business communities of India and China. Leaders believe such interactions can lead to joint ventures, supply chain partnerships, and technology cooperation in future-focused areas like green technology and electric mobility.
India’s fast-growing economy, large consumer base, and young workforce were highlighted as attractive factors for Chinese investments and collaborations.
