Amazon has announced one of its largest India commitments yet, revealing plans to invest $35 billion (₹3.14 lakh crore) in the country by 2030. The announcement was made during the company’s annual SMBhav Summit, signalling a major expansion into AI-driven digitisation, export growth, and job creation.
This investment comes shortly after Microsoft pledged $17.5 billion for AI and cloud infrastructure—showing how aggressively global tech giants are betting on India’s digital future.
Amazon’s New Investment Will Focus on Three Core Areas
1. Accelerating AI-Powered Digital Transformation
Amazon aims to bring advanced AI tools to small businesses (MSMEs) and enable over 1.4 crore entrepreneurs and millions of shoppers to benefit from AI-led services.
The company will support LLM training, cloud infrastructure, and AI adoption across sectors.
2. Boosting India’s Global Exports
Amazon is targeting $80 billion (₹7.18 lakh crore) in e-commerce exports by 2030—four times the current level.
A new partnership with the Apparel Export Promotion Council of India will help onboard manufacturers from clusters such as Tiruppur, Surat, and Kanpur, enabling them to sell globally.
3. Creating Large-Scale Employment
Amazon plans to create 1 million (10 lakh) new jobs across logistics, technology, retail, and digital services by 2030.
Since launching its India marketplace in 2013, Amazon has supported 2.8 million jobs, according to a Keystone Strategy report.
Previous Investments & New AI Push
Amazon has already invested $40 billion (₹3.59 lakh crore) in India over the past decade, including employee salaries, data centres, and infrastructure.
Earlier this month, Amazon announced an additional $12.7 billion specifically for AI and AWS expansion, including new data centre projects in Telangana and Maharashtra.
The company sees AI as a game-changer for Indian small businesses, helping them improve operations, inventory, customer service, and global competitiveness.
Amazon will also support 40 lakh government-school students with AI education and career training, expanding India’s tech-skilled workforce.
