Mumbai Metro Lines 2B and 9 to Begin Partial Operations From April 3, 2026

Mumbai commuters will soon get better connectivity as Metro Lines 2B and 9 begin partial operations from April 3, 2026. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has completed safety checks and trial runs, paving the way for passenger services on select stretches of both corridors.

Operational Sections

Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line): The first phase will run between DN Nagar (Andheri West) and Mandale (Mankhurd). It will cover five stations: Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd, and Mandale. This east-west corridor will improve connectivity between western suburbs, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Kurla, and Chembur.

Metro Line 9: The initial 4.5 km stretch will operate between Dahisar and Mira Road, covering stations at Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Mira Gaon, and Kashigaon. This section will benefit commuters in the rapidly growing Mira-Bhayandar area.

Benefits for Commuters

The partial launch is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease road congestion on busy routes like the Eastern Express Highway and SV Road. It will provide a faster and more reliable public transport option for thousands of daily commuters in eastern and northern Mumbai.

Future Expansion

Line 2B is part of a larger 23.6 km elevated corridor with 20 stations in total. Line 9 is being developed to serve the expanding Mira-Bhayandar belt. Both lines will eventually integrate with the existing metro network and suburban railway services for seamless connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Officials have confirmed that operations will follow all safety protocols. More sections of both lines will be opened in a phased manner as construction progresses.

Commuters are advised to check official MMRDA and Mumbai Metro announcements for exact timetables, fares, and station-wise details before April 3.
