A portion of the historic Kapoor Haveli in Peshawar, once home to legendary actor Raj Kapoor, has collapsed following heavy rains and an earthquake, raising fresh concerns about the preservation of the iconic site.
Structural Damage After Natural Calamities
Continuous rainfall weakened the century-old structure, while tremors from a recent earthquake caused part of a wall to cave in. Officials confirmed that the building was already fragile, and the latest damage has made the remaining structure more vulnerable. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
A Heritage Site at Risk
Located in Peshawar, the haveli was declared a national heritage site in 2016. Authorities and heritage experts have urged immediate restoration, warning that continued neglect could lead to irreversible loss of cultural history.
Rich History of Kapoor Haveli
Built between 1918 and 1922 by Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor, the haveli once had around 40 rooms with intricate architecture. It served as the ancestral home of the Kapoor family, including Prithviraj Kapoor, and is also the birthplace of Raj Kapoor.
