Tesla’s India Expansion Picks Up Speed
Tesla India has announced that it will soon open its fourth showroom in Bengaluru, marking another big step in its rapid expansion across the country. The company teased the move on X (formerly Twitter) with a post saying, “See you soon in Namma Bengaluru.”
With this, Tesla is strengthening its presence beyond North India and entering the key South Indian EV market.
Why Bengaluru Matters
Although Tesla has not revealed the exact opening date, the choice of Bengaluru is strategic. As India’s IT and startup hub, the city has a large base of high-income professionals and tech-savvy EV buyers.
Social media reaction has been enthusiastic, with users welcoming Tesla to the city and calling Bengaluru a strong market for premium electric vehicles.
Tesla’s Existing Showrooms in India
Tesla has been steadily building its retail footprint in India:
- Mumbai: First showroom opened in July 2025 at Maker Maxity Mall, BKC
- Delhi: Second showroom launched in August 2025 at Worldmark-3, Aerocity (8,200 sq ft experience center)
- Gurugram: Third and largest center on Sohna Road, handling sales, service and deliveries
- Bengaluru: Fourth showroom announced, further strengthening Tesla’s national presence
Model Y: Price and Delivery Plan
Tesla has already introduced the Model Y in India with a starting price of ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company plans to begin deliveries by September, initially prioritising Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, with Bengaluru expected to join the list soon.
The Model Y is available in RWD and Long Range RWD variants.
Supercharger Network Also Expanding
Tesla is not just opening showrooms, but also building its charging ecosystem. The company installed its first Supercharger in December last year at DLF Horizon Center, Gurugram.
Now, Tesla plans to expand the Supercharger network across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, aiming to offer a smooth and reliable ownership experience.
From Policy Hurdles to Rapid Growth
Tesla’s India entry was delayed for years due to import duties and regulatory challenges. After the government’s EV policy changes in 2025, the company finally began operations starting from Mumbai.
For now, Tesla is focusing on brand building and market testing, with no official announcement yet on local manufacturing. More cities are expected to be added in the coming months.
